The '39-D actually has a low mintage but got into circulation without a lot of fanfare. The '50-D was known to be a rarity from the get go and was hoarded by speculators as soon as it came out.

Indeed... I've read a lot of articles over the years about the 50-D nickel (and the 55 Double Die cent). What's interesting is I've only found 1 each of the 39-D and 50-D in my lifetime... I doubt thought that I've gone through nearly as many coins as you.

Well, I have been collecting for a very long time and have completed more than 5 sets of Wheats. If you need some assistance, please contact me at: avtaxman@hotmail.com and perhaps I can send a few coins I have in inventory. Enjoy the hunt...I still do and are currently working on set 7 in a binder. Good luck. Dan

Thanks. Once I'm done with that one, I'm thinking about half dismes.

Thanks, Dan! I'll send you an email. Like you, I'm also a West coaster. Stuff like '54 Wheat Cents and '55 Jeffersons have always been tough for me to find.

5 sets of which wheat cents? Obviously not the 1909-1940 book, so you must be talking about the 1941-1974 book? Or some other set you defined?

Alright, just sent you an email. Thanks again!

The hunt is always fun (unless you get a skunk like I did yesterday in $10)... How far along are you on set #7?

Figured this thread needed some pictures. I started keeping all my Canadian cent finds from work in a bag and early this year I came up with an old cent folder. I filled it with all the finds and was surprised how many dates I had. These have all been found at work in registers. It's currently a run from 1954-2010. I would like to end it 1952-2011. I am very hesitant to give in for buying the remaining 50's dates to complete it but it's been months since I filled another hole. My duplicates are adding up. Maybe a trip to Canada is due? :woot:

Ah Ha, I am not alone. I am working on circulating US quarters, Parks quarters, Roosevelts, and wheat cents as I get them. Sometimes the coins are almost uncirculated, so I keep at it.
Am purchasing Eisenhowers and Kennedys when I am funded but most of my enjoyment is from circulation.

A truck stop saves halves, dollars etc. for me. Actually got a Eisenhower $ today. Still have not learned to photograph, and it was a beautiful 1974d

Like kSigSteve, I am working on my Canadian penny set, 1940-2016 from circulation. I am only missing the more modern stuff, from the 2000's. I have a few, but those are harder for me to find than the old ones.
I keep my book of modern quarters going and keep a watch for the newest as they are released. I also collect all pre-1960 Jeffersons and have a few books completed except for the 50-D. I have all the Kennedy halves from circulation except for a few of the newer ones (2006 and up). I have all the post 1964 dimes from circulation too. Just got my 2016-D yesterday.

I've gotta start a canadian cent set, I've been saving all of the pennies I've found, I'd like to do a short set 1953-2012 to cover the Elizabethan years

Knocked off the 41-D wheat today, and my avatar is now changed to reflect the two latest additions to my CRH Jefferson collection. In absolute shock over the quality of the 39-D! I am now only missing the 43-D, 50-D, and 55 Philly.

WOW! That's awesome! As per norm, your example of the 50-D is a high grade one. Out of curiosity, what style/vendor were the rolls?

I hit a bonanza with LOOMIS rolls at the end of last week. Found a 38-D, 38-S, an AU 39-D & 3 Buffalos amongst 207 pre-60s in 94 rolls out of 2 LOOMIS boxes. Also knocked off the 1955 Philly in a separate box to get to needing the 43-D & the 50-D. 38s-39d.jpg

I have sets of Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson, Rosies, Washington all from circulation only. All complete, and almost all AU or better with lots of BU unc, I might add. Not all but most.
Also Wheat, and Mercury all from circ but missing a few. and Buf's missing a lot
I also have second albums for all but the washingtons that are put together albums. They include lots of circulation finds but also lots of trades to fill the niches.
