Picked them up at the LCS today because, literally, I didn't know what they were. Anyone care to try their luck/put their skills to the test? (probably have the reverse of the bimetallic upside down)
The first one is a 1967 Iran Medal Coronation Of Farah Diba Pahlavi As Shahbanu. It was made in Gold and Silver. Unsure if issued in Copper-Nickel http://www.poinsignon-numismatique....onnement-argent-aban-1346h_article_57685.html
Looks like at least a design match - mine weighs 10.7g (a bit lighter than the one in the link you provided, but similar to one offered here) BUT we are closer! Hmm...I really don't want to damage it (to test for silver.) Will keep looking to see if they issued any Cu-Ni (and to see what fineness the silver is.)
I looked for a good while to figure this out. I got the date as 1346 but both of my Krause books convert that to 1927. How is the book so wrong?
Try the tissue test for Silver. Cover the coin with a tissue, usually if silver it will show white. CN darker. Compare with a known silver and clad coin and you will see the difference. Also check with magnet. Hope it's Silver
Haha...I was going to write that it had passed the tissue test in my last reply...but took it out. Will grab a magnet and see. If it's silver not a bad junk bin pickup.
Iran changed its calendar at some point in the 20th century. I don't know the specifics but I know it happened.
