You are right, it is 1971. Here's mine!

To younger collectors such as I (who grew up with the internet --albeit the internet in the 90's wasn't that great), and used to having images for everything readily available, this took a little getting used to. At first I had no clue how to look up anything.

When I first saw it, it blew my mind. I was overwhelmed at first, but after a little bit of practice, I've become quite used to having almost no images to go by, and how to find coins solely based on a description. But it took some work to get used to this system.

You do have to admit though that what few images there are for Postumus sure are nice though.

If this format was such a shock to a mid-80's child like myself, who had access to computers since elementary school, I wonder what a 2000's child would make of this? They practically are growing up with high speed internet and tablets, and HD images and video being available for everything. I don't know if they'd be able to cope with something like this.

Someone needs to re-do this book for 21st century collectors. A digital copy with HD images for every coin would sell really well, I think.

PS: Look at those prices: $2-$5, with the few rare issues not exceeding $100. I wish I could go back in time with the money I have now and do a little Postumus shopping.

Great coins. My favorite story about Postumus is his downfall (from Wikipedia):
Postumus assumed his fifth consulship on 1 January 269, but the army in Germania Superior raised a usurper in early 269. Laelianus, one of Postumus’ top military leaders and the governor of Germania Superior, was declared emperor in Mogontiacum by the local garrison and surrounding troops (Legio XXII Primigenia). Although Postumus was able to capture Mogontiacum and kill Laelianus within a few months, he was unable to control his own troops, who wished to put Mogontiacum to the sack. When Postumus tried to restrain them, his men turned on him and killed him.

The problem with selling a digital set of images is everyone who might buy it already has access to hundreds of Postumus images on acsearch, CNG, Coin Project, beastcoins, Google etc. Certainly these do not make a complete set but the gathering of good images of some of the really rare ones might be hard for the publishers of such a project who would have to have permissions where individuals would be taking them for personal use (maybe not legal but unlikely to be tracked). How many of you have asked permission of sellers to us the images of the coins you buy? Rights to a photo do not transfer automatically even though most sellers would have no problem. You should get about 75 different silvers with little problem. Gold will be harder.

CoinProject was trying to be a consolidated online resource created through a collaborative approach. I am not sure of the current status but it did seem to fizzle out.

I supported it by uploading quite a few unusual coins of Septimius Severus and 'verifing' many others had uploaded mostly from big sales. No one every bothered to verify the ones I added so I stopped. It was a good idea but required two people interested in each specialty to make it work. I don't know what happened since I gave up but no one has verified my submissions yet so I take that as a sign they don't want more from me. I find it hard to search for certain things or to browse in a meaningful order but there are photos of many coins available there.

I supported it and uploaded quite a few Probus, Septimius Severus etc. I did "verify" others too but it all stalled. Nobody verified my uploads and I gave up after a while.

I sent them a small donation a few years ago but don't remember if I ever submitted coins. From the above posts, perhaps I won't bother.

It looked like such a promising project. Maybe it will pick up again.

I still use CoinProject from time to time. Not sure if they are still active and updating the site. It is very nice though, I find it easier to use than some other databases.
