This coin has me particularly excited. The 1867 Half Dime is rare, and more available as a proof than as a business strike. The business strikes nearly always look like the proofs, with powerful strikes and exceptionally deep fields, although there are differences. I just bought a coin for inventory which has the familiar radial luster instead of deeply mirrored fields, and would not stick out like a sore thumb in a collection of business strike half dimes by date. A VERY rare opportunity.

Dream coin. Best I can do is 1863-67 S mints, and those go for way above price guide value.

I love Civil War and Reconstruction era coins - how about you?

Got this today, nothing special. But it's beginning to get that sea foam green tone that I hope will continue. image.jpeg image.jpeg

So, you really do like Civil War/Reconstruction coins.

One of these days I want to buy a nice gold coin and make all the money for it via cherrypicking. Think I can do it?

I know the 1916 SLQ die diagnostics. If I find one, I will already be able to buy a nice gold coin.

Odds of that happening are pretty low. I've had success with foreign bins before. The LHNs yielded an 1888 and 3x 1896 (all FR-AG, but still worth a premium over buy price of 50 cents). I should probably go into the junk Washington bin to hunt for Type Bs next.
