Hello everybody! So i got this coin and i can't find any information about it. So i hope that anyone that knows more about US coins can explain a little bit more. It's a fine dollar and it's really small. Thanks for you time. Adam.
a fake - not a coin. Hint: If they can't spell FIVE (it says FINE) it can't be US issue and welcome to the forum
Your coin looks like a crude counterfeit...the design is "off." Take a photo out of the holder and show the other side too.
The inscription "FINE DOLLAR" suggests that the creator of this piece wanted it to look like a coin without actually being mistaken for one. Maybe somebody made it as play money? Christian
I do not know the where's and why's, but these things are out there, and I've long assumed as some sort of novelty. The idea that it's a fake or counterfeit though is a bit much. If anything, it fits well with what is, and is infinitely more obvious, an acceptable "fantasy" piece is these days.
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Adam! Second, you must also be careful where "fantasy" pieces are concerned because some of them are perfectly made to mimic the real thing, but in reality, are nothing more than good fakes. This is where a good working knowledge of the coins you are collecting is imperative and asking questions can keep you from making big mistakes. You must always bear in mind that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. Chris
Yes, I have, but only regarding tiny "cents". My post was only about those using Pratt's general Indian design. Perhaps they're considered the same; I don't know. Have you any evidence suggesting as much?
