I'm sure this one has been covered before but I'm curious.

What is the best coin that you have ever found in circulation? You can include currency too as it DOES circulate.

I spent many years behind cash registers in my day so I guess I had an unfair advantage. My best coin was a 1911-S Lincoln in F-VF years ago. My coworkers always poked fun at me for buying any "wheatie" that I saw. When I told them what the 11-S was going for they pretty much left me alone.
I also found a G4 1914-S and some great currency errors that I posted in a different thread.

Watch the Indy 500 tomorrow. I'll be on the fourth turn about 25 rows up. I'll wave - i'm the guy that looks like a coin collector. LOL

This has been covered before, but it's the type of topic that everyone (or at least me - and I know after me there's nobody worth your time :goofer: ) likes.

Most notable things, I suppose, were the 1909 AU Barber dime, the 2000 1 oz platinum, and the 1934C $10 Silver Certificate.

I've told them before, but, as I hinted, I never tire of retelling them. The note I got while working at a grocery store. Both of the coins were actually finds of my wife's. The dime she got in change at a McDonald's drive-thru. The platinum she got while working at a gas station. During the week of local high school graduations, some kid came in on the way to the beach with his friends to pay for his gas and cigarettes with the gift his grandmother had given him for graduation. The 1 oz platinum. She told him what he had, but his response was, "If I don't spend it here, I'll spend it someplace else." So she let him and bought it out of the till for face. "Here's your sign," as the saying goes.

    His loss. Awesome finds!

As for my best find, I do a lot of half dollar roll searching so it'd be hard to narrow it down to one. ;)

    haha, wild.

best things Ive found are the usual old nickels, wheats, few star notes, 1 silver half dollar, and, my favorite, a 1930-S buffalo nickel, in high VF condition :)

edit: i cant forget my 1919 wheat penny, oldest one i've found.

I've been checking my change since I was a kid without much luck. I guess my best finds would be a 1909 lincoln cent in AU55, 1961 Roosevelt dime, and a 1943 war nickel. I have plucked many a wheat cent from circulation over the past twenty five years but most have been from the fourties and fifties.

    Howdy all,

    Collecting for my paper route, I got a VG-F 1921 D Walker . . . does it count? ;-)

I sold it at a coin show to buy my first pair of skis. Yeah, but I was 16.

    peace,

    Is that a key date?

Yes it is a key date. There were only 208,000 minted but the 21s with 548,000 minted is worth more in high grades. ;)
