Hi, I am Matt and I am relatively...well a newbie :D. I intro'd myself and have been chilling in the coin error forum. My great Aunt/Uncle and father died in short order and I inherited A LOT of coins. I always collected comics so am new to this. I am not one to just throw my hands up and say, "do this for me." but the other forums members directed me here. I have tried, from what I can find I think I translate the date to 1823, but am unsure. Does that even qualify as ancient? LOL. Told you I am a noob. Anyway, there were two coins in dads collection I cannot ID. Help? This is the first. It was in a vacuum sealed bag with the number 2092 on the bag. I am unsure it that was an inventory number or what. Thank you for any leads. Looks like a coin from the northern region of India, or even what is today Pakistan (which used to be part of India). Maybe as far north as Afghanistan is possible. I would say 17th through 19th century. I can't tell you more because my interest in Islamic coins dates to the 700s through the 1200s (ie. Early to Mid Medieval period)...and doesn't extend past that.

Mughal? I have absolutely zero experience since I don't collect these.

@Matthew Jon, now that I think about it more, Agora Auctions had some coins similar to yours not that long ago. Maybe you can check past auction catalogs at their website?

    I think it's dated AH 1239, or 1824 AD.

Definitely Indian. Those are mint marks on the edges.

    Could be Persian (Iran) too
You need a specialist on Islamic coins, include the weight and diameter of your coin.
I got a few of these coins from India and Persia , heres one from Persia:

    Welcome Matt!

One of the specialists on the forum will show up soon and know what these are. Cool coins.

I think I have it. It's an Indian rupee of Shah Akbar II from 1249 (not 1239), struck in Ahmedabad. Variant with backward 9. Here are the pictures again, right side up.
