Since I am knew and for the most part a very generous, easy going, laid back respectful kind of guy I wanted to ask some questions so I don't violate any "rules" that aren't posted but are common sense among you all as collectors. 1. If I have coins and need help with an idea but it is in plastic (soft) and sealed should I take it out to take pictures? For example (below), I cannot ID this coin and am going to ask in the foreign currency area but should I take it out of the sealed plastic for pics? 2. I don't want to seem needy or clingy. I always worry that I am posting too much. As a former educator I know there are no such thing as a stupid question and I am truly interested in these coins, oddly enough errors have fascinated me and I do want to learn but not at the expense of annoying all of you with non stop questions. 3. Should I condense my questions about errors to one thread or should I make a post for each. 4. Follow up and related question, should I make a thread for each coin I have a question or put more than one coin in a post? Thanks again.
Yes. Keep error questions, if it is an error, to the Error Coins Forum. Do not create more than one thread for each coin. Look at my previous answer.. one coin per thread is easier for everyone.
Yes, it is best to remove it from plastic, but your image suggests that you also need to stabilize your camera with, either, a copy stand or a tripod because it is too blurry. Since you state that you like errors, you will find that it is even more critical to have good close-ups to show the details. You will not be annoying any of us when you are trying to learn. What is generally annoying is when someone asks a question, one or more of the veterans gives an answer and the OP doesn't believe the answer or consensus of opinion. It is less confusing to make a separate thread for each (error) coin in question unless the coins are similar or have multiple errors on the same coin. Follow-up and/or related questions should be posted to the same thread to avoid confusion. One of the most common mistakes that newcomers make is to start a thread and forget to add the photos. More often than not, they will end up starting a duplicate thread rather than post a new reply or "Edit" the existing reply. Whenever this happens, you need to click on "Report" at the bottom of the post and ask the Mods to either delete or combine the threads. Chris
OP welcome. One point. If you think the coin in the pic is an error, yes and no. It is slightly off center, but its actually a lot more common for these to be that way. You will pay a large premium for one perfectly centered. "Mint errors" are really a modern phenomenon. Only with machines could you expect a coin to come out perfectly every time, and collect those very few that didn't come out perfectly. The coin in the picture was struck by hand, so most were off center in some way.
Oh no no I am sorry for the confusion I was using that as an example of picture taking with plastic as it is in a sealed bag and I was unsure if I should break the seal to take pics.
Some are actually in vacuum sealed plastic so I didn't know what to do. I will open them and handle them with gloves or something

HAHAHA I was at the dealer (mentioned in another thread) and this nice young lady came in. He informed her she didn't have what she thought she did. She GOT so LOUD and indignant. Him explaining that he has owned the shop for 30 years and been in the business for 45 did NOT stop her rampage. SHE JUST HAD TO BE RIGHT. I was like "OMG lady chill"
