So my co worker gives me this and asks if it is anything "special" and I say IDK it looks like a minor cud to me but doesnt a cud have to involve the whole rim? There are so many types of die breaks and cuds I dont know if this falls in one of those categories. It doesnt have any metal moved along the rim that would be pushed up to make this happen so thats what made me think that maybe it is a small cud, someone care to enlighten me?
There are some people here and on another site who think that an error like this is a type of cud, but I disagree. Twenty years ago, a cud was defined as a break along the rim that extended into the field. The reason it was called a cud was because it looked similar to the "chew" of a cow in the pasture. This is what I consider a cud, and I ain't gonna change my mind! Chris
1970's Cents saw a lot of Misaligned Die strikes. I see a Misalignment on yours. Always show the entire Obverse and Reverse of your coin. Maybe a bit of Finned rim caused by the strike.
I just don't see it. What I can see it's just a rim burr rollover. Or as others would say a partial fhin .
Thanks for the replies. While I have heard of finning before I've never seen it but on this coin it makes sense because it just doesn't fit the cud term. I'll probably put it in a 2x2 and give back to coworker and tell him congrats on finding his first error
lol I know I know guilty as charged, I hate getting called out on something I tell others to do but I was so dead tired when I posted this that I believe I fell asleep in my chair lol
