My LCS has a bi-weekly silent auction. I went yesterday to see what was on the bid board for the next upcoming auction. I didn't realize I had won high bids on two quarters from the last auction, I guess I was to focused on the Walker and Franklin halves I was wanting.
Nothing really special but I didn't have a 40% silver bicentennial quarter so I picked it up for $2.25.
From what I understand SGS is pretty much a joke but I still liked this 1958 proof. Probably paid a bit to much at $5.50. I will probably take it out of the SGS slab and put it in a flip unless someone has a better suggestion.

Wow, and an SGS slab...I don't have one.

Yeah, I'd leave it in the slab. Good buys.

    Some info:

SGS was Strategic Grading Services who did slabbing very briefly in the early 1990s but then stopped doing so for unknown reasons.

NumisMedia/FMV lists a PF69 for a value of $90, not sure a diff. TPG slab would be feasible for this coin.

There appears to be many scratches on this slab, I don’t think they are on the coin, maybe dump the slab and go with encapsulation like an Airtite.

I doubt this Washington 1958 Philadelphia silver proof would achieve PF70 if re-slabbed. But it is a very, very nice looking coin and has sleeper potential.

I’d leave it in the SGS slab. It shows it’s over graded and I don’t collect slabs but I don’t have one of those.

I'd leave it in the slab too. No chances of messing it up trying to crack it out, plus it affords a lot more protection than a flip.
