What sort of fakes were they?

There's been a big rush of long-inactive accounts suddenly listing numerous "VERY FINE" Morgan keys (1894-P, 1889-CC, etc). Listings always say "exact coin pictured", but usually also list more than 1 available. Most common BIN price is $99, although that varies.

I report the first couple when I see a new batch appearing. It sounds like eBay has caught on, and they're disappearing fairly quickly.

Somebody is spending more time trying to sell this stuff than they would at a regular job.

Once you've got the seller tools configured properly, and bought a cheap list of stolen eBay usernames/passwords, it shouldn't take a lot more effort to do it a hundred times than to do it two or three times. Even if eBay takes the auctions down within minutes, you'll still get an occasional bite.

I'm still not sure how scammers actually extract money from eBay/PayPal in the face of Buyer Protection. Maybe enough people never realize they've been had, and never file. Given the positive feedback I've seen left for auctions of obvious fakes, that actually seems pretty likely.

It was an 1893-S for $193 with returns or exchanges within 7 days.
