1798 large cent - Variety?

    Can anyone attribute this 1798 large cent by Sheldon number? It's a style 2 hair btw

    Can you actually see the date on the coin? I can't from the pic. And are those "chop marks" on the obverse? I can never tell the difference between just somebody stamping into the coin for the fun of it!!

    You could make this easier (for those so inclined) by taking the coin out of the flip.

    I don't know, but I wonder if that would affect it's value, regardless, unless you just want a specific variety for your collection.

    The pictures make ID'ing the variety tough, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's a S-184. If I were to see it out of the flip, I could be more certain.
