F.B.K counterstamp on 1864 2C

    Rather than initials F.B.K., it looks to be a name F.B. K????. I see what looks to be serifs of a second letter after "K". The only stamp I know that is similar would be "F.B. Knox", but I think Knox is an English issuer. It's extremely rare to find an English counterstamp on an American coin, especially from the 1860s or 1870s.

    Just out of curiosity, Earl, is there anything stamped on the reverse? Stamps or markings of any nature? Could you post a good picture?

    @BRandM : the coin has medallic alignment. not sure if this is a common thing among 2C's, but the plot has thickened...

    That's interesting. I'm not familiar with the denomination but believe all U.S. coins exhibit coin alignment. Thanks for the info.
