Ages ago when I recieved a 1887 morgan silver dollar as a christmas present. I recently took a look at it and when I took a picture of it I thought the top arrow looked a bit off to me. I recall seeing photos of other morgans and didnt see that. Is this possibly an error?
Why does the top right arrow have part of it on top of the center or second arrow then? Thats what I dont understand. It's almost like a line sitting on top of the second arrow.
I checked through the 87 VAMs didn't find anything even close. so is either PMD or possibly an undocumented die chip but that's unlikely IMHO...
Looks like the "top" arrow took a hit and some of the metal has moved on top of the next arrow. Like others have said, PMD.
Agree with the PMD, but it does look like a Near Date, maybe a VAM 14? Does the date have any doubling? Looks like the VAM 14 has several die marriages. 1887-P VAM-14 - VAMWorld (ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com)
The last picture looks even more like a hit that moved metal around. Find an experienced dealer and have him examine it in hand for the best assessment.
