I have only searched two boxes and one bag $1000 total and I averaged 3 silvers per $250. Hardly worth the time as all were Roosies. I do have some luck finding clashes though and a set of 65 to 2016 could be very achievable from circulation. It's just a matter of personal preference as to what and how you want to search and spend time.
Nobody likes a quitter. LOL I love roll searching but I take periodic breaks as I don't believe you come out dollar to time wise. I do it when I need a break from everyday stuff or just want to spend time with my nephew who enjoys roll hunting. He hasn't learned how to find errors unless they are obvious and my eyes tire quickly so I don't spend a lot of time on them. I have been keeping all the coppers I come across and have hundreds of OBW rolls I have put up for the grandkids to eventually search one day. I also have 1000's of wheats I've found searching so it can be fun.
Lol, I also do a lot of cents, and I like to do nickels too. In my opinion cents are the best and most exciting to look through.
I averaged one silver per box of dimes. Not really worth it in my opinion. I bought $3.50 of dimes at 15xface yesterday. All Mercs, love them.
yeah its really tough anymore. I remember back in the day when if you had 10-15 rolls you knew you would find at least a couple. You can still get lucky as I found a 1957 a couple day ago but its a lot harder than it used to be.
Not really... I mostly look through Dime rolls for the 2009 coins, and those are hard to find. Silver is just a bonus for me.
From a cost/benefit perspective, the answer to whether dime searching is worth it is probably no. Given the time and effort of hauling hundreds of dollars of dimes to and from the bank and the subsequent time spent rummaging through them, is all of that effort worth it for a few dimes a box? From a purely enjoyment perspective, if you enjoy it then it's worth it. In that case the answer is a yes. I personally haven't seen a silver dime in circulation since 1992. I still meticulously search my change, but it's become less and less interesting over the past 20 years.
Are the 2009s worth anything? I have 2 that I kept but all I know is that the mintage was low. I also keep 2009 nickels
Yes. According to the last Coin Dealer Newsletter I saw 1 1/2 months ago, a roll of BU 09-P dimes was $21, the 09-D, despite being less common, $8.25. A roll of BU 09-P nickels was $60, the 09-D was $13. I've heard stories that many of the 2009 dated nickels and dimes ended up in Puerto Rico as most U.S. banks were not needing coins much due to the recession and people cashing in their change in 2008 into 2009. As long as they're not too circulated, I've been keeping them.
I was just wondering the same question about dimes being worth it. I have more excitement with nickels and pennies. Not so find if quarters either.
