I am not understanding your question very well. Could you perhaps rephrase it? A picture would also be helpful.

1946-S what? Silver, copper, or copper-nickel?

TPGs at one point would designate coins "W" (white) if they were untoned. Since coins can easily tone in a slab, they eventually stopped the practice.

Ahh, I figured it out. The "W" stands for white. This was only done on an early generation of NGC holder if the coin was more than 95% white.

A lot of the coins in my "collection" (pre-ToughCOINS) were white when I bought them, and have since toned (almost exclusively early NGC-graded coins).

Take a good look at that. Am I crazy or is that only 93% white?

It seems we still don't know what kind of coin he has, because he didn't bother to give the denomination. At least we know it's a 1946-S something, and it was white when slabbed.

This was a guessing game. No picture, no denomination, just a date. ;)
