Anyone ever find a full roll of silver? (or close to full?)

Yes, about three years ago I got a solid roll of silver Roosevelt dimes at one of my credit unions.

About 10-11 years ago, I missed getting a full box of silver quarters from my bank by about 5 minutes. I had ordered two boxes of half dollars and one box of quarters for my Wednesday pick-up, but instead of leaving early to be at the bank just before opening, I messed around on the computer for a couple of minutes too long.

As usual, I went through the quarter rolls just looking for silver before returning them to the bank. Silver quarters were easy to spot because they were in shrink-wrapped rolls. There were none, so I immediately took the box back to the bank to see if they had another box to exchange for them.

Laurie, the head cashier, excitedly said, "You won't guess what just happened." It seems that the manager of a local 7-11 had come in asking for another box of quarters. Laurie said she was surprised because he had just picked up a box at opening time and she didn't see how he could have gone through a whole box in just a couple of hours. He explained that when he opened the box, he discovered that every roll was silver, so he kept them for himself.

Not silver, but the closest I came to winning the coin lottery was about 15 years ago. I was in a grocery store. The cashier gave me my change. Of course, I looked down at right away. In the change were two MS 1955 Lincoln cents. I asked her politely if she could please reopen the register. She did. There was a whole tray of MS 55 Lincoln's in the penny section of the register. She said she just broke open that roll and dumped them in the tray. Again, I asked her of I could please buy those penny from her. I gave her 2 dollars for 46 "almost a complete roll" of MS 55 Lincoln's. I was thinking there may have had a hoard of then in the back cashier office, no such luck.

I have on a few of occasions. Once I received two full rolls of '64 Kennedy's. A few times I've had full rolls of 40% and last year from my local bank I got a full roll of 90% dimes. All of those rolls were customer wrapped rolls by the way.

I just got lucky on a few occasions. I used to roll hunt all the time, just before the big run up on silver in 2011. Some of my best stuff was from coin counting machine bags. When they would fill up, I would buy them from the bank.

Nice! From what I have heard, and my experiences so far, customer rolls are the way to go.

In 2011 in went to Bank of America in Charlotte, NC and got full rolls of kennedys, franklins, walkers, and two Barbers 1912 and 1913. I was excited and sad all at the same time. Someone turned in grandpa's collection without looking at what was in the rolls. At the time Silver was still in the thirtys and the melt was around $3600.

The best since then was a full roll or 64-69 Kennedys.

Over a year ago I posted about a solid roll of Walkers I once got at a bank, along with a bunch of other rolls . . . nothing good at all in any of the other rolls.

Not I, but Liz, my bank assistant manger had an old gentleman turn in a full roll of mixed Mercury & Roosevelt silver dimes last week. And some nice ones to boot. She let me look at them but she split them between her and another teller. There was a nice 1920S in close to A.U. in the batch. SHE had a really good day.

No, the most recent was the roll of silver dimes. Funny, the wrapper was marked "Silver". I've had a couple marked like that. I just can't believe people over look labels like that.

I mostly started in 2010, and I did find some nice groups but not any full rolls.

Back in 2004, I stopped into my local bank to ask for unusual coins, and they sold me 4 rolls of silver quarters (they knew I collected coins). It was a mix of SLQ, Washington and a couple of Barbers. As I got back to work, my phone rang and it was the bank telling me that they had some silver dimes for me too and would I like 100? So I fished out 10 dollars and headed back. I had mis-heard them: they had 100.00 or 20 solid rolls of silver dimes! 1000 Mercs, Roosevelts and a few Barbers for good measure! This same bank had sold me a RI Tercentenary Commemorative half dollar a few years earlier and would later on sell me a 1921 Morgan and 1935 Peace Dollar.

Wow!! I wonder why they would just let you have them if they knew they were silver? It seems like the bank tellers would buy them...

It's nice when you don't have any coin collectors at the bank!
