Ok so i have a 1971 s nickel in a proof set, is it worth the same value of a 1971 s nickel by its self because i have researched it could be worth some good money but i am not sure and dont want to get my hopes up. also i would like to know the difference between a proof set and just a proof coin.
Welcome to the forum. In order for your nickel to be worth anything big, it must lack the 's' mint mark. As to the difference between proof set and proof coin....the coin is individual (sometimes folks cut up sets and sell the coins singularly) and the set is just that......an example of each minted coin for that year.
A proof coin is an individual coin whereas a proof set is a set of proof coins. Would I be correct in assuming that the "good money" you speak of for a proof 71-S 5C is for the "no S" variety? If so, the value is in the variety and not the type/date, meaning an example with the proper S mintmark will not have a value anywhere near it.
yah i was speaking the good money as of no s mark, I just needed to make sure that i wasnt getting my self confused, but thanks for the help sir.
You're very welcome; tis always better to ask and be safe than assume and shoulder the possibility of being wrong. Welcome to the forum.
Could someone plz help me out..sorry for asking rookie questions but ima newb...found a 1971 nickel no mint letter but isn't a proof coin at all lol..is it anything if not being a proof coin? Appreciate any help
Just a regular nickel minted at the Philadelphia mint. Philadelphia did not use mint marks until a few years later.
