Yes, very Regal looking, much like the coinage. I am very pleased with them. Thanks again Secret Santa , whoever you may be!
Two Romans and a Greek walk into a bar to help with my dark side fascination: Constantine The Great and his youngest kid Constans Lydia Sardes Laureate head of Apollo with wreath/club reverse Thank you SS
This one for @Kasia as i know she enjoys the actual candles on a tree. I light them briefly every Christmas and I thought I’d share. Merry Christmas everyone
My Secret Santa picked the perfect gift for me, the Buffalo Hunter. I’m always pleased to add to my herd! Thank you so much Secret Santa! Merry Christmas, everyone!
I went back to the original post, which answered my question from a couple of posts ago. Where can one get one of those cute Merry Christmas silver bars? I kinda want one of those.
Per @Joshua Lemons in the introduction: $125 spent would put you on the generous side. But that’s where I’d prefer to be. It’s about what I spent on my recipient here this year. (I spent $105 on my Secret Saturnalia recipient on NumisForums.) I try to send a gift I’d be happy to receive, and keep my expectations low for the one I actually do receive (that way, if my Secret Santa did step it up or do his homework on what I like, I can be pleasantly surprised.)
I couldn’t do that, especially after our Thanksgiving this year. But it is certainly beautiful, and lends a patina of old fashioned beauty to that scene. I daresay your pic is almost postcard-worthy. The lighting is so much more mellow there.
Yes, it is lovely. Heck, I'm afraid to light the 50 year old A2 electric candles for more than an hour, and those are a standalone 3-candle unit. My Secret saturn was over-the-top generous. Unless he got a really good deal on them, the two coins could run $200,easy. A respected member at the other forum received coins worth about $10, on a good day. I thought that was kind of extreme... I gave a Seleucid Tetradrachm to said Saturn last year. It's fun to see others having fun with the bounty of Seret Santa. Keep 'em coming! If all goes well, I'll probably sign up here next year, also.
It happens. Which is one reason it is best to keep expectations low, I suppose, and also validation for the secret principle, so there is no shaming. Some folks who send an underweight gift might be doing so out of innocent ignorance, or lack of financial means, or both. “It’s the thought that counts” is an applicable phrase here.
I sure wish my recipient would post. Hasn’t been seen yet. Hopefully he’s having a good time celebrating.
He could be visiting family, in an airport, or virtually anything. I only post via PC, not my phone, so it could easily be something like that.
It stays lit for no more than 5 minutes. And I’m right there watching as is my roommate. Worst case i grab the pot of water off the woodstove. So we’re careful. But it’s fun too. Especially with a 30 year collection of antique ornaments. I have so many of the counterbalance candleholders I can’t put them all on the tree. And I’ve given a few away over the years. But I’ve collected them for 30 years
Opened my secret Santa gift. 3 Civil war tokens. Have never owned one and it will be fun to study their history. Also got an addition to my numismatic library. Red book guide to quarter eagle gold coins. Thanks secret Santa!
Agreed. I try to do what I can. I’ve been on both ends of the circumstances. Where I barely had 2 wooden nickels to rub together. And I’ve had years I had plenty of money as well. For me it’s far more about trying to really brighten someone’s day than anything I get. Though I must say last year I was really surprised.
Yes, since I have to send things directly from vcoins, I don't have much time to prepare. I mostly have some genres picked out. The French dealer numiscorner has both ancients and U.S., also very neat French medallions. They ship pretty quickly. I guess I could go with them. I pretty much knew what coin I wanted to get when I got my pairing. It was a collector (who's not on this forum) who collects super-budget stuff, so it was really fun to try and brighten his collection.
