1988 error on the D

    Found this penny, I'm not sure if this is a mint error? There something on the D, looks like metal?

    That is most definitely a plating blister. This date is a zinc cent and it contains a very fine coating of copper. This is very common. Eventually it will pop open and then the coin starts to rot.
