If you look at the date is there a D mintmark on the 4 or is that DDD? An explainer would help, thank you!
Not seeing a D anywhere. From the strike die deterioration wouldn’t surprise me at all, but I’m still learned g to spot that. I will say those are excellent pics, if yours very nicely done.
The 4 has Die Deterioration Doubling. Those lines all around the rim are more signs of a deteriorating die.
Welcome Joe. Great photos, so thanks for that. I personally, am not seeing any doubling from your photos, but rather what I believe is a small die chip in the lower part of the S. I'm sure others can provide you with their opinions and you posted this in the right forum; Cointalk, to get those opinions. Good luck.
I see the "D" at the left of the "4" more between the 5 and 4. I have to admit it looks quite suspicious like a punched mintmark, but i would put my money on die deterioration as I think most folks would without some hierarchal verification.
Love your name. I kinda see the D. But it’s nothing. I’ll read on about the mintmark. I agree with @Mountain Man
Although I see the D in the left part of the 4. I also think that it is Die deterioration. The vertical line that would be the upright of the D is die deterioration doubling of the 5. The two curves upper and lower are just radial die flow lines. By the way @shoelessjoe that is a real nice looking Lincoln cent. Thanks for sharing it.
