Yes. And I've read discussions on other forums about them. Some are pleased, others, not so much. Nothing risked, nothing gained.

you’re correct, his coin got body bagged. Looking at recent auction results an ANACS graded AU Details is bringing between $109 and $132. There was one that brought $372, but that was almost two years ago.

Who sells a coin like this on pictures like that? My Brownie Starmite II can take better pictures than that.

Terrible but better than the seller that sells coins from "bags" and posts a photo of a cameo BU coin, the bag it came from, random luck, no photo of coin. Now THAT is ridiculous. :woot:

Yeah, the whole surface is so reflective except right around the edges of the hair where it was more difficult to photoshop. lol My bet is that it looks nothing like the photo. Over exposed and washed out or simply photoshopped so no details can be seen on fields giving it the impression of being PL.

I can't take good photos on a good day. And folks who have followed some of my posts, will tell you mine are better than that.

Learning how to take a bad photo is also an art.

Some dealers may do so to make sure they under-promise and over-deliver. The buyer has low expectations because of a poor photo but may receive a nice coin.

Other dealers may take a bad photo, making it so bad that they obscure all damage to the coin. These folks are using the pretense of a photo but it’s little more than a decoy to entice the naive buyer. When they get the coin it stinks, but there is little they can do about it because they were the fools who believed the photo.

Not on eBay. Buyer Protection rules. Enough so that I've about given up selling there, because of all the things buyers can get away with.

    1887 MS62 ANACS VAM 12-A $55 on won auction
    1900 MS64 NGC, purchased outright, $80

I said that two pages ago.

While I’ve seen that auction Kings seems to have very juiced pictures in my opinion as an amateur, Ebay really can be a great place to buy coins. As long as you stick to slab coins, and don’t expect to buy coins on $.10 to the dollar

there’s a lot of Ebay hate on CT and I don’t think from the buyers point of view that it represents the potential that you can use the site for

Welp folks. Good advice given here. I got the coin in question and it's a beautiful coin...........but sadly, it's been lightly cleaned. It's going back. Just to confirm my suspicions, I took it to the most respected coin dealer in my city today. (I had other things to discuss about a coin they wanted to buy). The verdict from him was thumbs down, body bagged it even though he said it was a beauty to his eye. Return is in progress, so I give them respect in not fighting it. But I'll never bid on anything they ever auction again. Thank you for all your replies.

Sorry it didn't work out, at least they didn't hassle you on the return.
