here is a question for the audience is there a rank for grading service?is there a rank and file as a term of tier ? which one you think is better? what grading services you like?
Grading/slabbing time and cost varies wildly between the different certification companies and depends on the selected services and your subscription level. NGC takes forever. I have a standard membership (not a dealer) and it typically takes 2-3 months for grading and slabbing. If your also using NCS conservation services add another 1-1.5 months.
How people vote can depend a lot on a lot more than just a grade in a slab. What more than just a basic grade do you desire?
In my book (just my personal opinion, but I think many share it): Top tier: PCGS, NGC Second tier: ANACS, ICG Third tier: everyone else Exceptions: the new CACG is up and coming, and seems likely to be recognized (though I have no intention of submitting to them). ICCS is good for Canadian coins, even though their "slabs" are really just pocket flips. And I don't hate (old) PCI or SEGS, though they are third tier. In actual practice, all of my collection is PCGS or NGC holders.
I am hoping to get a bust half for Christmas in a CACG holder and apparently their grading standards are pretty solid. We will see.
I agree. If I purchase slabbed coins NGC is my preference. In my opinion, which doesn't really matter, they have the best facilities, grading "experts" and if necessary conservationist.
