Finally I finished attributing the coins that I won in a multiple lot. It took me about 3 months and I still have to recheck the weights and take pictures, therefore I won't be able to work on my top ten (or worst 10) from 2023. The reverse of this denarius is very appealing for me, because of the leisurely and also demanding stance of Minerva who was Domitian's patron goddess. My Domitian denarius issued as Caesar under Vespasian. It's not in the best grade, however its a scarce type commemorating the triumph of the Judea Capta: DOMITIAN, as Caesar under Vespasian, AR silver denarius. Rome, 73 AD. CAES AVG F DOMIT COS II, laureate head right. Reverse - Domitian, togate, riding on horse prancing left, holding sceptre in left hand and raising right. Cohen 664, BMC Vespasian 129, RIC Vespasian 608.
Handsome toning! As it happens, I just got the grade on a Domitian I submitted. It's on its way back from NGC.
NICE....this type was the second coin I bought when I started collecting 2011, I got ripped off, but alas its all a learning curve.
@David Atherton Thank you so much for your correction and for confirming the RIC number That is a very interesting denarius. In 73 AD his older brother Titus was still alive and as far as I have read, Domitian was not in Judea during the Jewish-Roman wars: "During the Jewish–Roman wars, he was likely taken under the care of his uncle Titus Flavius Sabinus II, at the time serving as city prefect of Rome; or possibly even Marcus Cocceius Nerva, a loyal friend of the Flavians and the future successor to Domitian" https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Domitian though this denarius probably was making believe that he did participate. @lordmarcovan, congrats on the XF grading of your denarius. The bust of Domitian is exceptional. @Ancient Aussie, it's a nice one, and a great way to start a collection you say you were ripped of, if I may ask, how much did you pay in 2011
