Are you able to buy bags of coins from the mint? I know they have sold them for state quarters and halves because I've seen them on eBay as well as older bags of cents etc.. I have tried to look on their web site but can't find out anything about regular issue circulation pieces sold by the bag. I would like to get some cents or nickels by the bag to search for errors and such.
I haven't seen nickels by the bag since the Westward Journey program ended in 2006. I haven't seen bags of cents since forever. You'll probably have to search on eBay or at coin shows. Chris
I figured as much because I didn't see them on the website. I have seen them on eBay, well cents at least, but I am sure I trust any of those bags to be original mint sewn. Thanks I appreciate the reply
I wouldn't trust them on eBay, myself. Even when I bought bags at coin shows, I used a loupe to examine the stitching to make sure it wasn't resewn. Chris
No. They did away with bags completely and only ship circulating coinage in pallet size orders to the Federal reserve banks. You couldn't get bags from the mint even when they were still using bags for coins. You would have had to get them from the Federal Reserve banks also. I think you could get the pallets also if you were equipped to handle the delivery.
I've got a tractor so a pallet wouldn't be a problem. I just don't think I've got the money for a pallet all at once.
I don't believe the mint has ever sold bags of cents and I think they only sold rolls in 2008 and 2009. They might have done 2010's Nickels they only did bags in 2004 and 2005. Rolls they did in 2003 - 2005, possibly 2006. They have never sold bags or rolls of dimes. Bags of quarters started in 1999 I'mnot sure when or if they stopped selling them. Rolls started in late 2000 and have continued since then. I'm not sure when half dollars started, I think around 2004, but when they did start they also offered 2001 coins from storage. Rolls I believe started around the same time and i think both have continued since then. Dollar coins started in 2000 in bags and rolls and have continued since then. None of the bags are standard size bags ($50 cent, $200, $1000 quarters and halves) except the dollars. In the early years of the Sac doll it was possible to get $2000 face bags of dollars.. They also had $250 bags. I think the $2000 bags ended in 2002. I think the nickel, quarter and half dollar bags are $25 face. I believe if you get the ballistic bags you have to pick them up at the mint , not a Federal Reserve bank. So MKent your problem is getting you tractor to the mint and back home again. Most people who go that route use a forklift and a panel truck or semi.
