Hey guys, I have the opportunity to get a lot of 70s and 80s half dollars in GREAT shape, and I was wondering if I should buy them for face value at the bank. Thanks

Why not? At face you can pick out the best ones to keep and return the rest back to another bank or spend them.

any coin at face isn't a bad call.

Unless it's mutilated or extreme pmd, otherwise I completely agree.

1982 and 1983 had no official mint sets, so those dates are worth a bit more in uncirculated condition.

1987 is also tougher to find (in circulation) due to lower mintages.

You could probably get a $1-$2 for various BU dates on ebay, but the fees and time spent would negate any profit.

Depending on how nice the 1982 and 1983 are, those could sell for more (ebay ranges from $3-$15)

How do you know they are all 70's & 80's? Did someone search them? If so, what do you think the odds are that you will find something?

It's possible someone pulled out any silver and the 70s and 80s are left. Even if someone looked at all of them, the OP isn't losing much (besides time...oh good ol' opportunity costs!).

well, I got them even though they were marked, and looked for silver and cashed them in. now that I think about it, there were a lot of nice looking uncirculated coins in there.

Actually, the 1987s were only sold in mint and souvenir sets. In theory, you shouldn't be able to find them in circulation. But, as we've seen with Proof coins, they're definitely out there circulating. I'm still looking for my first, by the way.
