It's in pretty bad condition but it was way worse before I cleaned it up a bit

Definitely circulated but I don’t think you scammed him too much. I wonder where he got the bill.

    I have no idea
I do have a 1976 2 dollar bill and it's in great condition might post it soon.

I think $2.50 was a fair price, nothing really special about the note and would
    put condition at VF+

Don't bother on that '76 deuce, they're nothing. That red seal is a nice one, but you didn't scam unless you're thinking a dollar and a quarter or some such premium is a scam. That's a fair price you laid on that. We save all of ours, regardless of condition, although condition really counts on those. Back on the '76, we dumped uncut sheets, at fifty percent premium per note, which is about the true market on those, all the nutcake eBay bidders' opinions notwithstanding.

It is a common fallacy on this forum that an unseen note that is otherwise considered to be common is not worth inquiring about or displaying. The fallacy is it could have an unrealized error or a rare/desirable serial number. A Series 1976 $2 bill with, for example, a serial number of L00000123A or B12222221A would not be nothing to most collectors.
