Disappointing. I thought the government always gave the People a deal. I mean, can't collectors have food stamps, now and then? Just as a thank you for your past overpayments, or sompin?
Same experience here. I followed the thread on the PCGS forums and someone mentioned being able to search for products before they showed up on the "Vault" page. I found the 2021 Peace Dollar and could have potentially ordered it (put in my bag) but it went out of stock while I was debating if it would be a decent example or if there could be something wrong with it (scratch, spot, etc).
I got very lucky today unlike back in 2021. I had a chance at a full set but every time I got my info in it sold out and I had to take an item off. I’m lucky I got theses two! Now I just need the other ones. What a bummer! The coins were sold out in a matter of a few minutes guys so don’t feel too bad if you missed out. I don’t think they had many to offer!
They specifically mentioned "returns and order cancellations". For the desirable stuff, I'm guessing it's overwhelmingly returns. That's one reason I wasn't remotely tempted by the reverse-proof palladium -- I'd be willing to bet there wasn't a 70 in the bunch, and a 70 is the only thing that would be worth what they're asking. If that. I wonder how many of today's sales will end up as returns? Say, does anybody remember them doing anything like this in the past?
Back in 2008 there was something kind of similar with their "last chance sale" https://mintnewsblog.com/us-mint-to-hold-last-chance-sale/
A few years back they offered some 2014 baseball commems after the sell out. I figured they were returns but I picked one of the dollar unc. anyway.......turned it into a pocket piece, and yes, it was less than acceptable, but for my intentions quite so.
I always wanted to do the same thing with a not-good-enough-for-grading 2014 gold Kennedy, but never had the guts. Wouldn't mind trying it with a reverse proof if I ever get one that I don't plan to resell.
Sorry, must have missed this post in the flurry of activity. Once I got in, there was nothing there that couldn't be had cheaper from third-party sellers.
