From the PCGS website, Detecting Doctored Coins: http://www.pcgs.com/news/detecting-doctored-coins-part-2
MISINFORMATION ALERT OMG! From the keyboard of an "Ex-Pert:" ...Wire brushing by hand is NOT whizzing; and what type of microscope do you use to see these fine scratches?
Here's a better one and notice the word " Usually " . But again, you old people think you know everything, NOT .. http://www.pcgs.com/Lingo/W
Well, I guess, the kind ANACS uses . My 10x can't see it and neither did my 2MP, 250x scope . Any other stupid answer Insider . Your still stuck in the 70s dude .......
Just encase those images don't convince you Insider, here's the link to closeups of that coin . http://www.vamworld.com/1880-P+VAM-21A
What part of this don't you understand? The coin is NOT WHIZZED as you posted: My mistake . The coin is NOT WIZZED as you posted: As anyone can see, and confirmed by ANACS it is heavily scratched...perhaps by one of those tiny little wire brushes you pictured above.
Don't know if you followed the post from beginning, but this coin is in a new NGC slab and did not meet the res price at $1,925.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/27231513830...38.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&rmvSB=true
And a wonderful MLB-worthy curveball it was. My first impression upon looking at the image was, "Golly, I gotta be careful about what the imaging process did to distort this one." The "look" was completely inappropriate....except for a circulated PL, in which case the image was pretty accurate indeed. Never even considered that, they're too rare. 1895-O is - by my usual measure, percentage of Heritage offerings - vanishingly rare in PL/DMPL, one of the rarest in the series. Heritage has 3343 records of 1895-O sales, and only 31 of those were for PL/DMPL examples. PCGS Auction Prices lists 4707 sales (including Heritage results), and only 43 were PL/DMPL. This coin should have a reserve well above what was bid. Found an interesting piece in my research for this post: http://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-doll...2-4302.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-doll...5-3449.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 NGC AU55PL in July, AU58 PL in October, and highly questionable either way.
