Picked this up a couple of days ago. As soon as a saw it I knew it was coming home with me. any thoughts on what it could be struck through? thanks.
Hmm . . . .looks like it was struck through a folded piece of scrap, ostensibly from a strip. It looks quite long, and unlikely to have come off of another coin.
No second thoughts on that one. super nice error coin. Struck Through on both sides is very uncommon. I think the wear on cheek-bone is quite interesting too. Thanks for sharing that one.
I agree…most likely a scrap/strip of metal for the impression to be as deep and on both sides. I’ve seen ST of fabric, metal and production debris/grease and this looks like from the harder substance…imo…Spark
Neat piece,I thought it kind of looked like a flying fish, wings on top and two small fins on the bottom.
That’s a great strike through and if I saw it, it would be coming home with me as well. Great addition to any collection. My best guess as to what caused it is a piece of scrap metal.
Someone above commented on the flat face of Lincoln. Some of the impressions don't line up with the reverse. Thats OK just that I would think that a full weight plancet that has been displaced by that much metal wouldn't be that flat on the cheek. I suspect a little mischief.
