Southern part of the Italian Peninsula has been under East Romans' rule since the day of Justinian (500’s) until 1000’s. In 1025 this was the border of Byzantine Empire: Anonymous folles are said to be minted in Constantinople. So, I am wondering: Did anonymous folles (those Jesus-coins) also circulate in the southern part of Italian Peninsula and/or Antiochia? Have we ever found hoard of anonymous folles in the south part of Italian Peninsula or in Antiochia? As usual: I don’t expect an answer, but in case you know the answer, I would be thrilled to be informed. Thanx.
Yes, many anonymous folles have been found in Antioch See Princeton online coin database for example : https://catalog.princeton.edu/catal..._sort+asc&search_field=advanced&commit=Search
Anonymous folles also circulated in the Magna Grecia region (modern Puglia) as well. Not aware of any hoards, but have seen and owned examples found there.
