A friend brought this to me and asked for everyone's opinion. Is this a clipped planchet or not? It looks like it's been hit with a hammer or some other form of damage. If it was a clipped planchet it would weigh less than a complete quarter.

By the way the correct terminology is incomplete planchet since the portion missing wasn't clipped.

This coin is totally damaged. No clip on it except for the damage and the correct term is incomplete planchet.

    That's clear damage.
This is what a clip looks like.
Also notice the slight Blakesly effect.

I have seen what they call a ragged clip before or precisely a ragged end of metal rolls they punch planchet from

    You should weigh it.

That's how much a regular quarter should weigh, so this means it is just bent and there is no metal missing. Happy Hunting!
