I have been working on an exhibit of the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark commemorative gold dollars. The inspiration for the Jefferson gold dollar was the Jefferson Indian peace medal by John Reich. The Mckinley piece was modeled after the memorial medal that Charles Barber designed for McKinley. Barber designed both the Jefferson and the McKinley gold dollars. The McKinley medal is common. The mint was still making examples of it until the 1970s. I am still working on how to lay the exhibit out which is still in its beginning stages.
I am nowhere near done with it. If it does work, I might show it at Summer FUN. I do have one that is done for Winter FUN. It will cover the Panama - Pacific set. I started that one for the 2021 Winter FUN Show, but Covid shut that down. I left it half done and finished some others. I came back to it for this year. Some things are on the drawing board for a long time. Some things never get off the drawing board. They just don't work out.
Yes, my graphics could use a makeover, although I don't care for those guys who pay a professional to do their printing and design for them.
The mint issued a very new nice Lewis and Clark commemorative coin set in 2004. I am trying to figure out how to work that into it. Back in the 1990s, the late Roger Cohen, who wrote the book on half cent die varieties, and I did a display of Draped Bust half cent die varieties together. He supplied the varieties I was missing, and I did the graphics with the diagnostic features for each variety highlighted. It was a lot of fun. We exhibited it at one of the EAC conventions.
Here is a bracelet that someone had made up. I assume it was made around the celebration for a very special girl.
There were jewelry pieces that the fair organizers sold with Jefferson and McKinley dollars featured on them. There are also gold spoons with the coins in the bowl. I have never seen that bracelet before. I think that was made by a private jeweler.
