1972 D cent floating head and missing nose bridge.

  1. My brother had this for many years and gave to me as Ihave a large collection. I suggested maybe a struck thru grease error but can not find another example online. Any thoughts? 1972 d floating head, no nose..jpg 1972 d floating head, no nose..jpg

    That's pretty common when a die is abraded and polished to repair a clash or other damage. The low points of the design on the coin get weak. Same situation as the "floating roof" reverse Memorial cents.

  4. So no big deal. I will just toss in the penny jar. He had it in a coin holder.

    I wouldn't put it in a jar. Keep it in a 2x2 holder.

    Yeah he is pretty ghostly looking.
    Heavily abraded die. What does the reverse look like?

    That’s pretty neat but it’s an over polished die that caused that.
