Hello everyone. I'm considering purchasing this coin. The die for the reverse appears to have been recut and the date is barely legible. Can anyone here make it out? Maybe Year 146? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

After looking at examples online, my best guess so far is that this is a blundered date of CY 126 (1 BC/1AD). Here is my interpretation of the visible parts of the date.

And here are the examples I found in auction catalogs, vcoins, and DCA - Shekels of Tyre Addendum.

What do the rest of you think? I'd appreciate any input from people with more experience with the Tyrian shekel series.

Probably 156. Coins in the 120’s have clear dates. The 150’s get very sloppy and often time illegible. Not near any books to look for a die match.

Cohen lists this die as illegible. All of these illegible dies are from the 150’s. IMG_4903.jpeg Credit goes to Ben at work who sent me the photo. I’m still away from the office.

Thanks to both of you for tracking this down. That definitely looks like a match. I just have one more question. I'm using the .PDF version of the DCA Supplemental, Release 2, Part I (2014). My version shows the same coin, just numbered as No. 714. Are you using a different version or do you have access to the main book? I assume, based on the image I was sent, that it came from the book.

I was able to find a copy of the supplement at a good price. Now I have to look for a copy of the book. A lot of the details seem to match up, so this also looks like a die match. I'm not sure I can say whether the second letter is an N or M, so I'm going to go with Cohen's dating range estimate of 14 to 33 A.D. I think that's a pretty safe bet. Anyone else care to weigh in? Discussions like this are great! Thanks, Barry, and a thank you to everyone else on the forum. I always learn something when I hang out here for a bit.
