Disclaimer...I usually don't know what I am talking about, but if I am wrong, someone will correct me. Two distinguishing differences between MD and "real" doubling is that the MD appears flat and shelf-like, and that "real" doubling will show notching at the corners of numbers, etc. Look at the lower right corner of your first "1" and you notice that instead of having a notch and having a nice rounded second 1, there is kind of a slant to the second 1 and a lack of any notching. Dang, you find interesting stuff!
This is the only one I could find that resembles it. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1961&die_id=1961p1do002&die_state=mds
Just like the flat, "shelf-like," outlines next to the date of your coin. A used copy of Cherrypicker's is in the mail.
Yours is MD but you should still search, and compare. Some true doubled dies are faint and could be mistaken for MD
Here are a couple of links to Coppercoins.com pics of 1969 DDO's (not the big one). You will notice how faint the doubling is. They can easily be mistaken for MD. So be careful and do some research before you toss one back. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1969&die_id=1969d1do001&die_state=mds http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1969&die_id=1969p1do001&die_state=mds http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1969&die_id=1969s1do002&die_state=mds http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1969&die_id=1969s1do003&die_state=mds
Whenever I find a penny I think has possibilities I take some pics of the date, Liberty, In God, the four quadrants of reverse and obverse. Then I go online and check against the listings on Coppercoins, doubleddie.com, and variety vista. All 3 have extensive pics, and descriptions of most of the known doubled dies. If I can match it great! If not I have to sit back and say is this worth persuing? Do I really believe it's worth paying someone to research it? It's always easier to spot someone else's MD than your own. Hahaha Then in a moment of weakness I post it on here and they all say MD!
Same here Lol. I have a hard time finding them online sometimes, so I post it on here. Thank you for the websites.
