Dear fellow numismatists: I recently purchased a small lot of low-grade ancient Greek coins. I have been struggling to identify them, and photos of one of these unidentified coins is included. What I believe to be the subject coin's obverse is pretty badly worn, but a few small details remain. I believe its reverse displays Greek lettering, but I am without any clue as to the object that appears next to the letters. Does anyone have an idea of what this coin may be? Also, if anyone has good resources for identifying Greek coins (aside from browsing Wildwinds), those resources would be greatly appreciated!
Rotate the second photo 90 degrees to the left, it's a ship's prow with Phoenician inscription below. Coins from Arados in Phoenicia have a very similar reverse, I'd start with that.
Arados (Rwad, Syria) Obv. : head of Zeus right Rev. : galley ram, ShNT 115 (in Phoenician script : Year 115) = 145/144 BC. Here is another specimen (not mine) : The reverse represents a bronze ram. Here is one of the 27 galley rams that were so far recovered from the sea floor on the spot of the Aegates Islands naval battle, 241 BC :
