This is one of my silver dollars with an ANACS MS 65/65 grade. I purchased it as shown without a protective case and with photoed info. I’ve noticed a small speck of black discoloration on the reverse side where the eagles feathers come together? Looks like it was graded back in 81 so time or poor storage might be causing damage. I want to send it out to be regraded by PCGS and protected properly. Can this imperfection be fixed before it gets worse? Will it reduce the grade as well?
One additional note, when I went to ANACS site to see if I could pull up info on this coin, I couldn’t find anything. Should I be able to find some info on this coin?
P and G, thanks. It’s amazing how quick people are here on ct. Now, hopefully some of the wisdom around here will help me decide if regrading is worth the cost of admission. Lol. A 1924 Peace dollar at ms 65/65 is worth a few hundred so it might not be worth having it graded again. Stick with what I have and put it away.
I wonder if conservation can take care of that spot. The pictures are a little fuzzy to tell exactly if it's a carbon spot, but it looks to be one.
It is not worth regrading, as the date is extremely common, and it will probably come back as a 64, not a 65 by PCGS. The distinction that coin has is the holder, which is fairly rare. A light dip might help it, but i would just leave it alone.
Yep, as much as members here seem to fear dipping, this one might benefit with a quickie and being sealed in a capsule.
I’d you regrade her she’ll more than likely come back as a MS-64 and yes, that spot will hurt the grade. It needs to be conserved but the costs to do so will not be easy to recover. It is a very common date, even in high grade.
Otherwise known as eZest. Wash your hands, dilute it to maybe 1/4 strength, dip a cotton swab in it and touch the black spots, immerse the coin and lightly move your fingers over it and immediately rinse, rinse, rinse, pat or blot dry with a soft towel.
I will try it on one of my silver coins first. I’ll rinse with distilled water and dry with microfiber cloth. I have to laugh here. My garage queen doesn’t get this kind of treatment and it worth more then my entire collection! Lol
That's the best idea. Nobody told you that. You should experiment like that until you get the hang of it. Read the instructions, all that. Just out of curiosity, what make, model, year? I love old cars.
Not an old car Ed, although I do lots of car shows and enjoy the whole car experience when I can. On the first day we met! 2016 zo6 zero miles! Today, 10500miles, stuffed away and pampered!
growing dust! Lol! She and I got a few miles in last week but I’ll be putting her to bed in a few weeks.
