How many countries have HRH EII on the notes that they issue ? We have the following UK IOM Gurnsey Jersey NZ Australia Canada Belieze Cayman Islands East Carribean States Falkland Islands Fiji Bahamas St Helena Gibralta Can you think of any others? They must have the Queens head on them :kewl:
Australia took the Queen off of the $5 note back when I still lived there, and she got her "revenge" when the new notes didn't work in the vending machines.
Steve,You have forgotten about these British Commonwealth countries; Bermuda. British Caribbean Territories (Eastern Group). British Honduras. Cyprus (right up until 1960). Scotland (2002 Golden Jubilee commemorative 5 Quid). Bahamas. Rhodesia. Rhodesia & Nyasaland. Solomon Islands. Southern Rhodesia. Zambia (Proof banknotes only). That's all I can think of at the moment. Aidan.
East Africa is another extinct issuing entity that had banknotes with Queen Elizabeth II's portrait on them. SanMiguel,I had forgotten about those countries as well. Aidan.
Steve,I forgot to mention Trinidad & Tobago as well. The current issues of the East Caribbean States have distinctive suffix letters to indicate which island issued it.Formerly,it was indicated by a capital letter inside a circle.A note with 'D' inside a circle & a serial number ending in 'D' comes from Dominica. That with the letter 'M' comes from Montserrat. The ones without those letters are just the East Caribbean States' general issue, which is no longer in circulation. Aidan.
Steve,East Africa, the British Caribbean Territories (Eastern Group),& the East Caribbean States were & are all British Commonwealth currency unions, just like the Eurozone is.The Euro banknotes all use code letters to identify which country issued which notes.Currently,I collect only the Euro notes with the serial numbers that start with 'T',as they are from Ireland. Aidan.
Chris, that $5 note is a very unattractive commemorative note commemorating the Centenary of the Commonwealth of Australia. There was quite a bit of controversy a few years back when the Central Bank of the Bahamas released an issue of banknotes depicting politicians. The very next year, the Queen's portrait was put back on the notes. Aidan.
Thanks Kiwi I personaly blame Twiggs for my new collection (Just starting) of Commonwealth Banknotes as she very kindly sent me a 1973 Canada $1 and that kicked it off LOL I shall be collecting only those notes that have a Monarch on them, hence my question about notes with EII on With a few exceptions for example I am going to get the NZ notes with Cook on and the Canadian $5 2006 as it has Kid's playing Ice Hockey on it LOL
I have notes from the following countries on the way Australia Canada Belieze Cayman Islands East Carribean States Fiji Bahamas Trinidad & Tobago
Steve,so you are admitting that you need to buy the Pick catalogues then? You will need them to identify which issues they are, especially in the cases of Fiji & the Solomon Islands, which have several issuing entities that have issued banknotes depicting Her Majesty, our Queen. Aidan.
Aidan I am admiting nothing of the sort, where on earth do you get that from!!! I collect German, British, USA, Hungarian and now Commonwealth, I have Catalouges for my British and USA, I can get a good German one for some 19 euros As for the rest I can find all the info I want on the Canadian from the Bank of Canada web site, same goes for the NZ. I am sure the same can be said of most of the others.
Steve, those bank websites don't have catalogue numbers.Eventually,I will be buying some Pick catalogues to see what notes in my collection matches up with which 'P','PM',& 'PS' numbers.I classify the Bank of England notes as being from England, not from Great Britain. The same thing goes for the banknotes of the British Armed Forces & the British Military Authority. The only notes that I would class as being from Great Britain are the Treasury issues of 1914-28. Aidan.
Aidan I intend to collect by the the value of the note & who signed it, I am not looking to find every version of a single note, so the numbers are irrelavent to me. As for the Bank of England notes , I class them as British LOL and not English as they are for use in Wales & Scotland as well and of course in NI, Classing them as English implies that they are for use only in England and this is patently not the case. Scottish notes can be classed as Scottish as that is where they are aimed at, the same goes for NI notes. British Armed Forces & the British Military Authority notes are as the name implies British but they are not Banknotes
Steve, are you collecting banknotes from both Zimbabwe & the Republic of Ireland as well? I collect them along with the ones from Somaliland as well. They're all British Commonwealth banknotes anyway. Aidan.
