I have this one. The die sinker mistakenly put “Shoot Him On The Spoot”….. Wish I wasn’t stuck out here at the peewee football playoffs or I would attach a photo. I’ll try to remember to do it tomorrow.
When I was a dealer, I handled thousands of Civil War token over the years. The issue I had with the “spoot” token was that almost all of them I saw had problems. I recall handling only one that was really nice. A dealer at a Winter FUN show had a certified one in Red Uncirculated. He had bought it for a want list customer so I had no shot at it.
Here are my two most recent CWT purchases. A Wealth of the South token with the zinc coating intact. A rare Lincoln token.
Here's two more. They are different varieties. There are five Wealth of the South tokens. The Wealth of the South side is the same for all of them, but the reverses are different. Just to let people know. All of these tokens are the size of a cent. When I was younger and didn't have one, I thought that they were larger. I like this one the best because it's likely that a Southern "fire eater" wore it. This one is rare. There are less than ten known. David Bowers says that he found this one to be the rarest. I bought this when I was dealer and probably knew I'd never get another one if I sold it. This one is sort a "white bread" variety. It was probably made to sell to collectors during and maybe after the war. It might be the most common variety. There are two other varieties. I might get one of them some day since it is somewhat common. The last one is as rare as the one I posted with the hole, and is probably out of my reach.
