How many members here have their own website for ancients?

    Interesting thread.

My website is dedicated to Dombes coins rather than ancients. I'm trying to build a comprehensive catalog of them, mainly through my collection, two major public collections (Musee des beaux arts in Lyon and Archives departementales in Bourg en Bresse) and various coins from private collections. There's a summary in english in case some of you are interested in knowing what it's about : http://monnaiesdeladombes.blogspot.fr/

I don't have a website about ancients so to speak, my gallery of ancients is actually hosted at Forvm : http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/index.php?cat=11724

I have one but it is awfully out of date. I did start again but am finding it difficult to find the time. I need to pull my finger out and resurrect it.

Looking good! Very clean, easy to navigate.

I see you chose Wix as the platform. That's the host I'm using and I've found it to be relatively easy and flexible. Due to the volume of coins and certain customizations, I opted for a very modestly priced paid account.

For the last few weeks I've been slowly revamping my site. Because of the number of coins, having each coin listing in the drop-down menus required an absurd amount of scrolling. The changes aren't complete but the Greek and Roman sections are partly done. There are still many coins in the "View By List" pages which haven't been uploaded, and many more which haven't even been added to the list yet.

Any feedback on the ongoing changes is welcome.

It does take some time but I've really enjoyed having a website where I can easily view the coins. I tried Forvm's gallery but just can't stand the forced center-justification description and the inability to customize.

I've been kicking around the idea of making a website for my token collection...seems like an overwhelming job.

I do, using a hosting platform called "Zenfolio". It has its limitations but is relatively easy to use. I considered writing one myself but am a big proponent of not reinventing the wheel and this is adequate for the time being.

Tried Forvm Gallery too, I stopped using it for the same reasons. Your website looks good TIF. I actually prefer looking at the thumbnails, rather than the list.

I enjoy the thumbnail gallery too but needed to add the list view for ease of maintaining inventory. Also, it is quicker to find a coin that way rather than scrolling through the gallery :)

I'm playing around with Wix this morning and it's amazing how far hosted website design has come since the last time I tried it. It's really easy to use and I can't believe all of the stuff you can do with it. This Is Fun!

It saddens me that the age of the website has passed. Now people expect to be able to access anything on a phone size screen and hold the webmaster responsible for making the information fit their equipment rather than the other way around. Even this site shows the new era of impatience from those who read every post on their phone seconds after it goes up and wonder what is wrong with those of us who read once or twice a day. My pages fit what I saw as a need online in 1997 but are hopelessly antiquated today when sites like Wildwinds and acsearch are what are popular. Here is the latest picture of me at work on my website.

I still prefer to use my PC to look at things with my tablet been next. The phone is too small for me.

Thanks everyone for posting your websites. I have been wanting to make one for a while now, still working through the concept, but hope to have it up in a year or so.

I use tantaluscoins so that I have an online record in case they get stolen. Maybe Wix in the future.

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

i don't have a smartphone...and i'm going to try to avoid getting one as long as possible. i like checking out stuff on a 20 to 27 inch screen instead of a 4 inch screen...and my fingers like to have a big ol' keyboard and mouse. it takes me 10 minutes to type out a blood text on a phone! LOL!

plus, i like to not be connected for periods of time..i usually even leave my dumb phone at home.

who will be using the desktop computer 10 years from now? a shrinking group of PC gaming enthusiasts and old folks.

    hey, that's me!

I'm with you, chrsmat71. No smart phone. I use a PC with a keyboard, mouse, and 23" monitor at 150% zoom. That way I can REALLY see the details on the coins!

Voice to text texting has been amazing to me on the Samsung Galaxy 6 my daughter gave me. It really requires speaking clearly and still leave a few errors that should be cleaned up but it is a lot easier than typing in on those little buttons. After about a week, I took the email capability off it and have not been much of a fan of web browsing short of an occasional look for a restaurant when in the middle of nowhere. I would not consider buying a coin having seen it on that screen. It is bad enough to buy one on this laptop.

It is less than a year since I persuaded husband to get a phone with a camera. Now he uses it to make notes and finds it very useful. But when he goes away, does he take pictures? No.

I gave up using smartphones in 2014. Didn't like the cost of the monthly bill plus I rarely used the phone or talk to anyone. I never text. I just have a junk Tracfone and buy minutes when needed. Leaves me more $ for groceries and of course, coins.

I swear the public is a legit "Walking Dead", so many zombies.
