Because the guy believed it "fell through"... A knowledgeable dealer returning a coin due to his own mistake? So much for lesson learned.
As a true numismatist, you could have simply pointed out the issues you see, without telling people how stupid they are. I know you didn't say "stupid" but that's what people read between the lines. I spotted the obvious damage, but there are other areas which made me think... repaired? ...or original? PCGS called the coin "repaired" so that's what I was looking for. Do you think I am a dummy too? ;-)
I'll reply to this since there is nothing going on at the moment in my boring life (I'm not counting the fact that my lovely wife just bought HERSELF a new computer and is setting it up across the room just in case I take more of this "bait" and get myself banned again ). @micbraun posted this: As a true numismatist (?), you could have simply pointed out the issues you see, without telling people how stupid they are. I know you didn't say "stupid" but that's what people (Perhaps those may be the ones you're referring to that you accuse me of calling stupid?) read between the lines. I spotted the obvious damage, That's funny, I don't see you anywhere on this thread until your Post#85 after it was a dead topic. Why were you keeping us in the dark so long? As a true numismatist, I wish you would have shared your knowledge sooner. but there are other areas which made me think... repaired? ...or original? PCGS called the coin "repaired" (It's the entire reverse as I neglected to say as I was fixated on the OBVIOUS damage and failed to mention the OBVIOUSLY repaired and unoriginal reverse! Now, I'm the real dummy.) so that's what I was looking for. Do you think I am a dummy too? It appears you are assuming something again.
Oh, anyway, about the original poster, I do hope that @Jeweler appreciates the crucial service that PCGS provided to him and his client. They have guaranteed that the coin is not a fake. It is edifying to see the impact this has had. Not once in this thread did anyone cast doubt on this aspect of the certification/grading. With a coin of this value, that is amazing. So, in spite of various quibbles about grading in lots of threads, it seems that TPGs, along with digital photos, online sales, and fora like this one, have transformed the hobby and business of numismatics profoundly. Otherwise we couldn't even have conversations like this one.
Actually I'm a very friendly hound dog. However, here is a good story for you: When I learned of Chet Krause's death recently, I called an acquaintance who heads a TPGS and oversees about a dozen professionals on a daily basis. We had a good laugh when I expressed to him I am so busy at work that I actually have very few really close friends anymore. After more laughter and barbs at this revelation we are planning to get together soon. I always have lots to say about my CT "friends." I tried to get him to join month's ago but he has little time for and collectors such as me.
Yeah - but it is how you say it. Rather than calling everyone stupid to start with which is what happens from one particular member.
You are correct. I'm sick of seeing how this member treats others. I don't need to be told to grow thicker skin. It's clear that the rules have changed here or the mods just gave up. You can insult others or say just about anything you wish if you pick the right words. All we can do as members is to report post that are rude and insulting. It no longer helps but that's all we can do.
