What is the best way to use MS 70 on proofs? I would obviously assume you dont use a Q-tip on a proof....lol.
I haven't done anything yet. Gathering supplies and suggestions for now. I'll look into MS-70 as well, thanks.
Try dipping it in 50% ammonia and 50% distilled water....AS I,ve written many times, 90% of these proofs will look like day one...I,ve dipped dozens of brown Ikes with perfect results!
Okay, so let's say you dip 1-2 coins in that E Z est stuff. Do you pour the liquid back in the container? If not, do you just pour it down the sink or toilet? Thanks
Dip works for awhile. Just don't dip different metals in the same container if you are a purist. I have a screw top plastic container and pour fresh dip from the gallon container into small batches.
speaking, not from experience, I'd say you dispatch the used liquid........at least that's what I would do........
With ezest you just open the jar and dip. When you're done close the jar and repeat next time. I'm on at least 30-40 coins on my current jar. Acetone is a different story though
I use a Q-Tip to apply MS 70 to proof coins. I obviously don't scrub it. Just move it around a little.
Oh, awesome. Thanks. I thought you couldn't reuse it for some reason. No wonder I ran out so fast in the past
What would you recommend this product for as well? Mostly what it says on the bottle? (From what I remember it says just AU and Uncs). And do you wash it off/pat off or leave it on for a period of time like verdicare? Thanks
We've posted a lot about MS-70 in other threads about cleaning. It's a really safe and effective cleaner for removing gunk on coins. In my tests after buying VC, I prefer MS-70. It works faster and is easier to use. You must flush the coin with hot distilled water and detergent. I'll occasionally use VC as a preservative for copper after conservation.
MS 70 isn't a dip. More like a detergent. Don't use it on beautifully toned coins as it will leave the tone but subtly change it. All the colorful highlights will be gone.
Ammonia is the quickest, cheapest, and most effective chemical for dipping hazy Ike s, and most proof coins from the early years of poor mint packaging. Never dip a copper coin!
A dip will remove most all the color and leave it bright but I didn't think MS 70 would harm any real toning.
I didn't know that. I think I have some pure ammonia (I used some to shew away some raccoons but it didn't work). Thanks for the tip, I'll experiment
I use a solution or 50/50 ammonia and distilled h2o... dip in a glass bowl(swish but don,t touch any surfaces with hands or cloths) rinse in distilled water after a bath under a warm water faucet...blow dry with a hair dryer...experiment until you find the right method that suits you. Its fast, easy, cheap, and effective!
