1856 1C PCGS says it was repaired....

You can see the repair on the reverse mostly inside through wreath around "one cent" also that mentioned by CoinGuyI also don't like the haze going on around the Eagles head on the obverse.

DITTO! Thanks for the photo Ron. Just another point. Do you all see the difference in the "style" of the berries between the OP coin and the comparison coin? Indicates a different reverse die.

 

This is PMD not a repair. There may be an actual deceptive repair somewhere on the coin that is not so obvious. I don't see one.

 

If I was home I would. Sometimes finding the words to explain what I want to say escape me.

 

I take it as they think the pmd was made while trying to "repair" the wreath tips. Had it been in the middle of a field it may have been called graffiti. Strange semantics at the purview of the grader or finalizer is my guess

What I see in the wreaths looking at the original pics seems like somebody tried do cover pitts or corrosion .

 

That makes it obvious. I thought the photo was just fuzzy for some reason.

 

If you "did not buy the coin yet", and had an "agreement" that the coin needed to be "certified in order for [you] to make an offer", how are you "trying to sell the coin for him"? This makes no sense whatsoever.

 

@Jeweler don't take this the wrong way but are you into coins? I take it coins aren't your forte as any of us would spot the damage at first glance and never submit such a coin unless it was valuable enough to need to be authenticated as an original us mint product. You said client. What area are you in? General ebay seller or b&m guy dealing mainly in jewelry?

We have an online Bullion site and a physical retail store, we have lot of customers that come to our store, this coin happens to be owned by one of my customers and I am trying to facilitate a sales, We don't have that much experience in collectible market so I am just trying to do the right thing for my customer. By the way, I already have a customer for this coin but would not buy it without getting it Certified which was the reason I sent it to PCGS, let's see if he is willing to buy it, if not then it will be returned to the owner.

 

We are an online bullion seller, do eBay and Amazon and have a physical retail Jewelry/Bullion store, you are correct we don't know much about collectible coins, I am just trying to be the middleman between a very good customer who owns lot of coins and perhaps other customers.

 

Edited to say, it's still worth thousands of dollars!

IMO, the entire reverse has been "worked" to smooth the fields. Note the difference between the obvers and reverse fields. That is probably why PCGS called the coin "repaired." The damage is on the berries.
