    I bought this interesting coin, or part of it, from my good friend, fellow Metal detectorist...I firmly believe, that is part of the Galba denarius, Lyon mint..
    IMP GALBA CAESAR behind the Imperator head on obverse, and clearly visible AVG on the reverse...Almost the same denarius, the whole in this case, was sold at CNG, auction 154, lot 167...Or, Im wrong?

    Kinda neat the way the break follows his profile (but not so much for Pax's (?) head)!

    Aha -- this actually seems quite rare and special! If you try to find a Galba Denarius with Pax reverse, it won't be easy. There isn't one in RIC or the others I just quickly glanced at.

    (
    Here are the OCRE results for Galba Pax.)

    This type was struck as an Aureus, also very rare:

    • RIC I (second edition) Galba 129;
    • RIC 123
      • not pictured on OCRE, but see CNG 102 (18 May 2016), 881:
        "RIC I 123; Lyon –; Calicó 465; BMCRE –; BN –; Biaggi –."
        "The second known example of this extremely rare aureus. The only other example known was from the De Quelen Collection (Rollin et Feuardent, 14 May 1888), lot 862, which is the Calicó plate coin."

    Your coin appears to be a double-die-match to an unpublished Denarius specimen sold by CNG at e-Auction 164, lot 167. (Don't get too excited about the price; theirs, worn but unbroken, hammered at $263 USD + fees, in 2006 dollars.)
    (ACSearch record.)

    Galba. AD 68-69. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.36 g). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. IMP GALBA CAESAR AVG P P, Laureate bust right, globe at point of bust / PAX AVG, Pax standing left, holding branch and shield. RIC I -; BMCRE -;BN -; RSC -. Good Fine, nice flan, legends fully legible. Apparently unrecorded as a denarius, but the type is known as an aureus (RIC 129).

    Coin Tax:
    Unfortunately I don't have a partial Galba Denarius to show. But I do have a partial denarius of his successor, Otho, to show (yet again!):
    Otho Denarius (Ex Muona M16) HJB BBS 215 153.jpg
    (RIC 8; Muona Coll. M16, this coin)
