I have what appears to be an odd 1944 P nickel and was doing some research and saw "Jims Coins in WI" had sold a similar coin for a lot of money. I would love to get some information from anyone willing to help on how to determine what this is and if its worth more than $0.05...lol. I have included 2 pictures of it. It appears to be almost "chromed" and in really good shape. It was in a cup of coins from my grandfather who passed in 1975. It is magnetic and there appears to be no marks anywhere on it and the edge is in amazing shape all the way around as well. I appreciate any help you all can provide
I wouldn't know how to verify that except that there are no marks anywhere on it other than basic circulation wear and tear. should I look for anything to verify either one of those thoughts?
agreed, I am not sure what the general composition should be for that year. I used a fairly strong magnet and the coin will not adhere completely to it but it definitely showed some magnetism...
Have you ever seen an authentic nickel that was attracted to a magnet? Agreed nickle in it's pure form has some magnetic properties, but I don't recall US nickels that are attracted to magnets, however strong.
I have gotten some in roll searches that were plated with chromium. That looks purty similar to some of mine. Zinc would be less of a mirror finish and a lot more milky in colour.
To be honest before yesterday I have never put a magnet on a nickel...lol I appreciate everyones help!
