Septimius visited his native province of Africa in A.D. 206 and returned to Rome in A.D. 207.

The fruit is symbolic of Africa as the "bread basket" of the empire. Septimius Severus was born in Leptis Magna (modern Libya) to a Punic father and an Italian mother, the first emperor of provincial origin.
