Hello, I just stumbled on this one today, so bought it.Gordian coin from Odessa, Macedon, look at the nice reverse. Obv: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: Roma, holding Nike set on globe, seated left on shield, being crowned by Tyche of Edessa, holding cornucopia, standing behind. Varbanov 3673 var. (cuirass under Roma).
Very very nice pieces, everyone. My jealously knows no bounds. What I find extremely impressive about most Gordian III coins is that they show the immense skill of Roman engravers. Anyone looking at most of these small masterpieces can tell immediately that the Emperor was an adolescent. I believe that his reign started at age 13? The portraits show it. Few, if any, medieval coins could even come close to such mastery.
