500...I'm guessing it went well over your estimate and that is why you are posting it...the coin is nice but I don't consider the toning spectacular
$150, thinking that these silver war nickels can strike up better than the standard nickel planchets, and have better luster. The overlay of blue toning just enhances the silver, so this coin could be a knockout in hand.
The toning looks to be polyvinyl chloride contamination, although I wouldn't rule out, as a rather longshot, admittedly, some copper acetate going on, as well, these, after all, being 56%. I'm not liking it very much, quite honestly. I'd have had it conserved before grading, I'd think, on the theory it's only going to get worse if left untreated. Due to its instability, I'd think I could go a buck three-eighty, three-eighty-five on it. Another way of saying it, think I'd pass.
$142. Just because most auction bids exceed the "actual" value of the coin. Actual being a coin that could be purchased through a coin dealer on a normal workday.
This area bothers me enough that I would not have bid at all. Also, the amount of "chatter" on the rims bothers me as well for a 67. That being said, I bet the PCGS TrueView treatment would make this coin look stunning with the ghostly obverse blue/orange toning, with hints on the reverse as well. So I am thinking someone way overpaid for a coin, and was not bothered at all by the circled mark that is making me feel crazy. $250
I think the toning is gonna push it higher. I don't know anything about varieties with these so if there is some kind of overdate here I could be miles off. But, I'm gonna say someone fell in love with the blue toning and go with $225.
