Currently listed on the Bay- reverse appears to match both a bad 1877 and 1878 CC:

The mint mark is so far apart, they should have put one of the C's on the obverse. Jack-in-the-box popped up and caught another dip stick. Thanks Jack.

That mint mark spacing exists on real coins though.

Type 1 reverse so does that narrow it down?

Yea, type 1; I'll do some searching when I have a minute, just hoped someone here new off the top.

That MM spacing/ location doesn't exist on any 1876-CC I could find and the listing won an orange hoodie...

What I meant was that the MM spacing exists for some trade dollar year - I know I've seen it before, just don't know which year off the top of my head. I didn't quickly find one for 1876 either. It's a Type 1 obverse too, right? Not that you have to look for a specific obv/rev match - the date looks freelance.

Jaxk, you would know this way better than me, but it seems since I have been collecting coins trade dollars have been rife with countefeits. Is this fairly true or my imagination? It just seems very high in proportion to their mintage numbers.

IMG_1427.jpeg Here’s a 1874 that has the same mm position. Regardless neither date should have a type 1 reverse

1873-cc-t$1-au55-ngc.jpeg Actually I think my 73 more likely. The left c Lower than the bogus coin. So likely a 73 reverse

I agree; a very counterfeited series, and I own several for research.

The MM position/spacing does appear to be very similar to the 1873 CC that KBBPPL posted. It does NOT match that on either the 1874 CC or 1873 CC that Mainebill posted.
